2025 ජුනි මාසයේදී, ඔක්ස්ෆර්ඩ් ඉංග්රීසි ශබ්දකෝෂය (OED) නිල වශයෙන් සිංහල සම්භවයක් ඇති සහ ශ්රී ලාංකික ඉංග්රීසි උච්චාරණ දෙකම ඇතුළුව වචන කිහිපයක් එහි දත්ත සමුදායට එක් කර ඇතැයි වාර්තා වේ.
•Asweddumize: A verb meaning to prepare fallow land for cultivation, especially for rice. This term has been used in English since the 19th century.
•Avurudu: Celebrates the Sinhala & Tamil New Year (mid-April); refers both to the festival and the period.
•Kottu (Roti): The now-famous street food dish—chopped roti cooked with vegetables/spices on a griddle.
•Mallung: A traditional Sri Lankan side dish of shredded greens, coconut, and spices.
•Kiribath: Coconut-milk rice, served during festive occasions like Avurudu.
•Watalappam: A Muslim sweet custard made with coconut milk, jaggery, and spices.
•Baila, Papare: Sri Lanka’s fun, lively music styles (baila — folk dance tunes; papare — cricket-match brass bands).
•Walawwa, Osari: Refers to traditional manor houses and a style of sari draping respectively.
